SA rami ng kaso ng pag-abuso sa Philippine Military Academy (PMA) kabilang na ang 52 kadete na na-confine, 27 kaso ng pagmamaltrato at pagkamatay ng kadeteng si Darwin Dormitorio, tama lamang na suspendihin ang recruitment.

Ito ang paninindigan ni Ako Bicol Partylist Rep Alfredo Garbin matapos na rin magmatigas si AFP Chief of Staff Noel Clement na maituturing na drastic move ang panawagan na itigil ng isang taon ang pagrerecruit ng PMA cadets

“If we stop the recruitment of cadets for the PMA, it’s going to affect the profile of the Armed Forces in as far as all our officers are concerned. PMA produces the biggest bulk of the junior officers that we have. If we stop the recruitment at PMA, our future projections and our replacement for those who retired and for our casualties will be affected,” nauna nang pahayag ni Clement.

Paliwanag ni Garbin na hindi maliit na bagay ang mga iregularidad na nadiskubre sa PMA at ang kanyang rekomendasyon ay akma lamang sa kaslaukuyang sitwasyon na dapat iprayoridad na resolbahin ng academy.

Hindi rin naniniwala si Garbin na makaapekto sa supply ng bagong mga opisyal kung matitigil ang recruitment, aniya, mayroong mga reservist ang AFP na maaaring ilagay sa active status.

Naniniwala ang mambabatas na hanggang sa hindi nababago ang sistema sa loob ng PMA ay mas marami pang mga pang aabuso ang mangyayari na hindi mailalantad sa publiko.
